Our philosophy recognizes the rights of these individuals to participate in the same activities as their non-disabled peers. However, we also realize that they may need additional assistance to address any special needs, as well as to encourage integration and participation in center activities.
We currently have 21 clients that attend the Richmond and Castro Senior Centers. We have two staff that provides direct services. Our clients are referred by Golden Gate Regional Center, which is state-mandated to provide case management services to the developmentally disabled. They are also our funding agency.
While at the center, the clients are offered a full day of integrated program activities which include art/crafts, exercise programs, health/nutrition classes, a hot noon meal and opportunities to socialize and establish relationships with their non-disabled peers. Client choice and interests determine her/his daily schedule, and new interests are encouraged by staff.
The primary role of staff is to provide training and support to the individuals in the program. The staff also acts as a liaison to GGRC, the client’s home and/or family.
